Historic Documents Added
Ann Trudeau, KA0ZFI, former editor of the EOSS
Stratosphere Newsletter and
editor for the National Balloon Symposium Proceedings called me up
on December 1, 2006 and offered to loan me some paperwork and photographs she had stored away in
boxes regarding EOSS's early history.
Below are links to some of these documents. The originals are on paper and so
I have to retype them into the computer so it is taking a while to really get
comprehensive coverage of all of this. So, check back on this page periodically
if you want to see if I've added anything lately.
EOSS-004
Ann had net scripts for both 40 and 2 meters. They were quite interesting and
informative. They were also practically identical so I transcribed the 40 meter
script which seems to be the superset, of which parts were taken and modified to
make the 2 meter script.
Marty Griffin, WA0GEH wrote up an excellent recap.
EOSS-005
Here is a flyer from EOSS-005. It was very nicely laid out but I had to
modify that when I retyped it into the computer.
EOSS-008
Here is a flyer made from the same layout design as that used on EOSS-005.
Meetings and Nets
I finally came across a written version of the net script used to call the
EOSS on the air meeting every Tuesday evening. I've posted the actual original
transcribed from the printouts (printouts included in JPEGs to show how a BBS
looked back then) and then updated it to include the current times and
locations. But, this script was originally written back on March 22, 1992 by
Jack Crabtree. Cool!
Stratosphere Newsletter Enhancements
I'm thinking of attempting to add graphics into
the electronic versions of the Stratosphere. They were originally omitted when
we were all accessing the net on modems at 9600 baud to save space and
transfer time. Now, well if I can find them I'll work on that.
I discovered that the March 1995 electronic
version of the newsletter was corrupted. So, I fixed that but in the process I
added back in some graphics that I had available with the hard copy of the
newsletter Ann Provided. One interesting graphic (of two I inserted) shows
what the EOSS front page on the web looked like in March of 1995 (three months
after it was first put online). Oh YEAH BABY. GIF Graphics on a web page how
groovy!!
EOSS RDF
Paul Ternlund, author of the triangulation program used intermittently
these days but heavily relied upon when GPS fails started up his efforts to
computerize triangulation almost from the very beginnings of EOSS. I found
this paper he wrote up to help get everyone on the same page when the T&R team
started using his program. You might just find some similarity to the
procedures Paul developed and what we actually do today when we zip about
recovering payloads.
Minutes
Ann had a bunch of old minutes from previous meetings. I already had a
fairly good collection of minutes but with her contribution we now cover these
additional meetings:
